A Community's Response to Unplanned Pregnancies

> > janet: it’s pretty interesting with all of the things that are in the news here lately about abortion and planned parenthood the feelings that it’s dredged up inside of me.

It was pretty unexpected. You know, I had an unwanted pregnancy at 17 with very little support. I came to austin and had the abortion. I don’t believe in doing protesting or ridiculing women who are walking into an abortion clinic because we never know why they’re walking into that clinic.

When I found out I was pregnant, I didn’t feel like anybody in this world understood what I was facing. I was alone.

I was scared with very little support. I wish I had someone that would have loved me and loved my baby and somebody that would have encouraged me and said, " you can do this, this is what you were made to do, and you’re going to be ok.

≫ > interviewer: do you mind telling us what this is your making? ≫ > janet: this is a diaper wreath. So this will be our sixth bundle of hope shower. We love on moms who don't have a lot of family support or don't have the financial support they need.

The ladies in our church bring food and everybody brings gifts to let women know that there are people out there that care about them and want to help them.

≫ > candace arrival: > > holly: hi you must be candice. ≫ > janet: this is holly. > > holly: it’s so nice to meet you.

I’ve heard great things about you. ≫ > janet: hey collette, can I introduce you to candice. This is pastor nathan’s wife. so this is candice.

≫ > janet: I think it's very easy for us to say, you know, a baby's a blessing, and why would you do anything different, but it's not to everybody, it's scary. When I see a girl that's in this situation, my heart automatically breaks.

Usually one of the very first things I say to our moms is, " you know, it's okay to be scared around me. It's okay, to cry. It's okay to be angry.

Those are all very natural emotions in the situation that you're in." when we can just love them, just because that's what jesus does to our heart. He calls us to love.

I mean sometimes they're feeling love for the very first time in their life. ≫ > janet: ladies again I just want to say thank you so much for coming today to love on candice.

Candice is special to me … so just thank you. Have fun. So this is your bundle from bundles of hope. and we just want you to know candice, after today, it’s not over.

This isn’t just a baby shower. We love you and we’re here for you. Everyone in this room is here for you, from now on.
